Home-care guides by home age

What your home needs next depends on when it was built. Start with your neighborhood's era.

Neighborhoods built over the same few years tend to need the same big jobs at the same time. These guides help you plan ahead, ask the right questions and compare notes with neighbors.

Find your neighborhood's era

Built in the late 1990s to mid-2000s

Homes now about 20 to 30 years old. Many original roofs, HVAC systems and water heaters are at or past typical lifespans.

Built in the mid-2000s to 2010s

Homes now about 10 to 20 years old. Water heaters and AC units are often on their first replacement; roofs are worth a check after 15 years.

Older custom homes on large lots

Homes from the 1970s to 1990s, often updated over the years. Check the age of each system rather than the house.

New construction

Homes built in the last few years. Start with the new-home guides: builder warranty, punch lists and a new yard.

Canterfield Creek has its own late-1990s home-care guides. New-construction owners should start with the new-home guides.
